Description
A comforting French-Italian fusion dish featuring tender pasta coated in a rich marinara sauce and ground beef, topped with a golden, cheesy crust. Quick, budget-friendly preparation ensures perfect al dente texture with a silky cheese blend of mozzarella and parmesan. Ideal for family dinners or leftovers.
Ingredients
Ground beef, preferably lean (450g)
Dry pasta (penne, rigatoni, or fusilli) (340g)
Marinara sauce (500ml)
Shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese (125g)
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese (50g)
1 onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
Olive oil (2 tbsp)
Salt and black pepper
Dried Italian herbs (1 tsp)
Breadcrumbs (2 tbsp) for topping
Instructions
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F)
Boil pasta in salted water until al dente, drain
Heat olive oil in a skillet, sauté onion until caramelized
Add ground beef with garlic, herbs, salt, and pepper. Brown thoroughly
Stir in marinara sauce, simmer 5-7 minutes
Layer cooled pasta in an oven-safe dish. Pour beef sauce evenly
Sprinkle mozzarella first, then Parmesan
Bake covered for 20 minutes. Uncover, sprinkle breadcrumbs, and bake 10 minutes further until golden
Notes
Caramelized onions enhance depth without needing alcohol-based deglazing
Parmesan can be omitted for a simpler cheese layer
Pasta absorbs extra sauce when cooled before baking
Leftovers refrigerate well for 3 days
