Description

A rich and comforting beef and pasta dish with a creamy cheese sauce, using tender chuck roast and coiled pasta. This family-friendly recipe combines melted cheddar, marinara, and herb-seasoned beef for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

225 g medium coquillettes
1 tbsp olive oil
450 g ground beef (5-15% fat)
1 small sweet onion (finely chopped)
5 garlic cloves (minced)
240 ml marinara sauce
200 g grated cheddar cheese (or Gruyère)
240 ml heavy cream
1 tbsp salted butter
1 tsp smoked paprika
salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook coquillettes according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté for 3 minutes until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking up with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked (8-10 minutes). Season with smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 5 minutes. Gradually mix in grated cheddar cheese until melted and creamy. Reduce heat to low.
Pour in heavy cream and salted butter. Stir continuously until sauce is smooth and coats the back of a spoon (2-3 minutes). Taste for seasoning.
Combine cooked coquillettes with the beef sauce in the skillet. Toss until pasta is evenly coated. Serve warm.

Notes

Coquillettes can be substituted with penne or elbow macaroni
Add a splash of sour cream (crème sure) at the end for tangy balance as suggested in the recipe explanation
For a richer sauce, substitute heavy cream with a 50/50 mix of heavy cream and milk
Use freshly grated cheese for better melting performance
The paprika is key to adding the signature smoky depth
