Description
A comforting Italian classic with layers of tender egg pasta, rich meat sauce, and a creamy ricotta mixture. Perfectly balanced with a golden, bubbly top for a family-friendly meal.
Ingredients
12 lasagne sheets
450g lean ground beef (maximum 15% fat)
700ml marinara sauce
410g crushed tomatoes (with juice)
250g ricotta cheese
225g shredded mozzarella
50g grated Parmesan
1 large egg
2 tsp Italian seasoning (oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary)
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
A few fresh basil leaves, chopped
Instructions
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F)
In a pan, heat olive oil and brown the ground beef until cooked
Add diced onions and minced garlic to the pan, sauté until softened
Sprinkle Italian seasoning and mix well
Stir in 500ml marinara and 300g crushed tomatoes, simmer meat sauce for 10 minutes
Meanwhile, cook lasagne sheets in salted boiling water for 8-10 minutes
Drain pâtes and let dry
In a bowl, mix ricotta with egg, salt, and pepper until smooth
Layer sauce, ricotta mixture, mozzarella shreds, and drained lasagne sheets in a baking dish
Repeat layers, finishing with a top layer of sauce and remaining cheese
Bake for 30 minutes until top is golden and bubbly
Notes
Use fresh basil for added aroma
If time permits, pre-cook meat sauce with added carrots and celery for extra depth
Baking pan should be well-greased to prevent sticking
